Serving: 4
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Heat: direct high heat (450°F-500°F) and medium low (325°F)
Grilling Time: 8-10 minutes for medium-rare
1 small portobello mushroom, cleaned and finely diced
1 small shallot, finely diced
¼ cup real bacon bits
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
½ teaspoon seasoning salt
1 tablespoon butter, cut into four pieces
4 slices smoked Gouda cheese
4 hamburger buns
Lettuce, tomato, and any desired condiments (optional)
1 Mini Afire Sugar Maple plank
First. In large bowl combine ground beef, mushroom, shallot, bacon bits, egg, barbecue sauce, and seasoning salt.
Second. With your hands, mix until combined, and form into four hamburger patties. In the center of each patty, insert a butter square and re-form the patty to cover. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Third. Place hamburger patties on plank. Close lid and grill for about 8 to 10 minutes for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
Last. Remove from grill and place one slice of cheese on each burger and allow to rest for 5 minutes
Grilling Tips: To prevent your food from sticking to the plank, brush a little olive oil on to the plank. Spray some water on the plank, if burning.
